Profile

Hernando Patiño Bastidas is a rough diamond of Colombian painting.

An authentically Creole exponent; representative of the most sincere expression

and original of contemporary plastic arts in Colombia.

An expert with firm lines, well defined with a difference in values; good perspective concept; good interpretation of light and shadow; an excellent study of colors in very well balanced compositions based on the full use of the format, in ranges both poly and monochrome with tendencies to lightening or graying according to your interests; he has become an unknown poet of the canvas; brush craftsman; inveterate chronicler of his time; a talent with transcendental artistic power centered on "El Pasto", a beautiful town in Colombia.

Self-taught; with an extensive archive of overprotected works in the purest concept of universal art - art for art's sake - that very recently has been placed before the general public with a tremendous impact on the local market.

As a self-taught artist, he is - as defined back in 1961 by the outstanding and versatile Master of Cuban art Samuel Feijóo - a nobody's copier. Not wise copycat. Not a follower of schools.

This is where his genius lies, as well as the artistic and commercial value of his impressive work.

Taken from the collection of poems "Monografias" by Itzam López Alarcón (Tagame).
